Every business entity interested in receiving awarded funds from the US Government is required to have an active registration in the System for Award Management (SAM). This session explains the importance of SAM for both suppliers and planners, plus it encompasses the basics of how to register in SAM as well as how to identify actively registered businesses and organizations.

Chris McLaughlin, CGMP, has over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry and is the Director of Global Sales for Sonesta Hotels. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing systemwide government and military strategies across 17 brands comprised of 1,200 hotels. He also serves as 2nd Vice President (2021-present) on the SGMP National Board of Directors. He has been a devoted member of SGMP since the year 2000 and earned his CGMP in 2009. Prior to his current leadership position with SGMP, he served as National Treasurer for 2 terms (2017-2021) and was Treasurer of NATCAP Chapter from 2013-2015. Notably, Chris was the 2020 recipient of Sam Gilmer Supplier of the Year and SGMP President’s Award recipient in 2022.

Become a Government Meetings Expert
The Certified Government Meeting Professional designation ("CGMP") is designed for planners and suppliers whose work is governed by the rules and regulations of the federal government. Individuals who have earned their CGMP have obtained the highest designation available that is specifically for government meeting professionals. The CGMP is recognized in the hospitality industry; many government contracts now require planners working on the contract have their government certification.
